Prof. Michael Brophy will discuss his passion for Quebec literature, as a lecturer and a researcher. In his teaching, he has focused primarily on the birth of the literature during the period of the Quiet Revolution. In his research and publications, he has explored a range of works by contemporary Quebec poets as well as the emergence of migrant writing in Montreal during the 1980s. Prof. Brophy regularly receives Quebec writers into his class and recently collaborated in this respect with Prof. Marie-Andrée Beaudet (Université Laval) on the presentation to students of Gaston Miron’s L’Homme rapaillé, a work currently on the syllabus of the French Agrégation. Another poet of interest is Hélène Dorion whose work Mes forêts currently figures on the syllabus of the French Baccalaureate.
Michael Brophy is Professor of French and Francophone Studies at UCD. He has published widely on contemporary French and francophone poetry, as well as on French Canadian literature and migrant writing in French. His current research focuses on the relationship between poetry and ecology, for which he was awarded a Craig Dobbin Legacy Scholarship in 2025.
